PhD in HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHICAL-SOCIAL SCIENCE
The PhD program in History and Philosophical-Social Sciences of the University of Rome Tor Vergata aims to promote and organize advanced training activities in Medieval History, Christian and Medieval Archaeology, Modern History, Contemporary History, Economic History, History of Christianity and Churches, Political Philosophy, Aesthetics, Sociology and History of Science, assuming as fundamental characteristics the collaboration and the didactic-scientific comparison between different disciplines.
The main objective is therefore to train, in each of the above sectors, early stage researchers capable of achieving levels of excellence both in methodology and in the analysis of historical and theoretical issues. These skills can be used both in scientific research in university structures, and in sectors of cultural organisation promoted by public and private bodies, where high and medium level operators are increasingly required, capable of dealing with the multiplicity of national identities and traditions which, as a result of the processes of globalisation, are destined to increase in a multi-ethnic society.
In order to achieve these objectives, regular conferences and seminars with Italian and foreign scholars are planned, as part of an increasingly wider internationalization; at the same time, exchanges and residencies of doctoral students in Italy and abroad are encouraged, also because the doctorate has agreements with some foreign universities. In addition to lectures and periodic meetings, the didactic initiatives include seminars in which, by exposing the state of their research, the PhD students confront their colleagues and develop their communication skills.
The doctorate is organized into two curricula: History; Philosophical and Social Sciences.
